Why Preventive Dental Care Is So ImportantPhoto of dental hygeinst showing patient how to properly brush teeth

Did you know that there's a link between dental diseases and other serious medical conditions like heart disease? It's time to start seeing dental health as an essential part of your overall well-being. We work hard to do our part: When you come to our office for Preventive care, we make it a priority to ensure your tooth checkup is as comfortable, relaxed, and informative as possible.

In addition to a dental examination by Dr. Welch, our qualified dental hygienists use preventive dentistry techniques to help stop cavities and prevent other oral health problems. They thoroughly clean your teeth and gums, remove plaque, and check for periodontal (gum) disease, cavities, and bite problems. If you need advice about the most effective ways to clean your teeth and gums, or you have questions about dental procedures, cosmetic concerns, or other dental topics, we are here to help.

The most effective way to keep your healthy smile and maintain good oral health is to:

  • Practice good oral hygiene at home, brush your teeth with a soft-bristled brush with a fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day, and floss carefully between all teeth once daily. (Mouthwash also can help remove plaque and decay-causing food particles, but it shouldn't replace flossing your teeth.)
  • Eat a balanced diet filled with healthy, nutritious foods. As much as possible, avoid sugary foods and drinks. If you can't brush your teeth after drinking a cola or eating sweets, at least rinse your mouth out thoroughly with water.
  • Make an appointment to come in for professional teeth cleaning and an overall mouth checkup every six months. Regular dental checkups help keep your smile bright and avoid potential dental concerns. If you wait too long between checkups, minor dental problems can grow into big ones!
